Day One
Welcome aboard at five, drinks and canapés on the bow, and the first dinner underway toward the Buccaneer Archipelago.
Broome · King Sound · Monday 24 August 2026
The trip begins on wheels. You board on a beach, and the beach lets go.
Boarding day. The tender came up the sand on its own wheels, took everyone on where the dry ended, and drove itself back into the water — the last land underfoot for a week. By late afternoon the beanbags on the foredeck had been claimed and the light had turned the colour it turns out here.

By five o’clock everyone had drifted up to the top deck, and nobody came down again until the sun had gone.

After dinner the chart came out across the saloon: Hall Point to Sunday Strait, the week ahead drawn in soundings and yellow, a bottle of Forest Hill shiraz holding down one corner.

Nine hours earlier they were standing on a beach. Now there is no beach.
